Cartier Tank History and Features:
Cartier Tank was created by Louis Cartier in 1917, and the prototype watch was presented by Cartier to General John Pershing of the American Expeditionary Force. The design was influenced by the World War I Allied Tank commanders. The Tank watches feature a square or rectangle case, and its straps are concealed under vertical sidepieces. Tanks usually feature Roman numeral hour markers, and a few models feature small sub-dials. The winding crowns have sapphire cabochons or diamonds. Today there are over thirty variants of Tank watch, in both automatic and quartz versions. The most recent version of the Tank is the Tank Française, released in 1996.
