Omega Company History:

Omega was founded by Louis Brandt at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848. Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and symbolizes perfection and accomplishment, qualities that have been passed through every Omega watch since the companies founding. In 1879, after Brandt's death, his two sons, Louis-Paul and César, abandoned the unsatisfactory workshop due to questionable quality and irregular deliveries. In 1882 they moved the company into a converted spinning-factory in the Gurzelen district of Biel, where the headquarters are still to be found today. Their first series-produced calibres, Labrador and Gurzelen, as well as the famous Omega calibre of 1894, would ensure the brand's marketing success. In 1999, English watchmaker George Daniels invented the co-axial escapement. Omega incorporated the co-axial with the Calibre 2500. Omega has won many awards for their innovation and quality over the years, including the world precision record of 97.8 points at the Kew-Teddington observatory in 1936. Omega has been favored by a good deal of publicity in its history: from Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon with an Omega Speedmaster strapped to his wrist, to James Bond's bullet-dodging and spy-chasing with an Omega Seamaster under his cuff. Besides the sporty "Moon" watch and "Bond" watch, Omega excels in its dress watches - particularly the Constellation and the DeVille models.
