The 2017 Rolex Datejust 41 – A Refined Classic

ARTICLE DATE 05/16/2017

There’s no doubt that the latest Sea-Dweller was one of Rolex’s hotter releases this year. But, there’s also no denying that the Datejust can be severely overlooked. For 2017, Rolex has introduced the new Datejust reference 126334. This new model boasts a larger size and now comes in stainless steel resulting in a more approachable price tag. So let’s take a closer look and find out what else makes the new Datejust so special.

There’s a huge variety of Datejusts available and we explored that here. Still, many might find these designs a bit behind in terms of contemporary tastes. That’s why I find a newer, larger Datejust in stainless steel extremely appealing. It takes a solid, everyday design and updates it to modern standards, which makes for a very versatile timepiece.

Updated Datejust Design Elements

As mentioned previously, the case is 41mm in diameter, which works well with the fluted bezel. Furthermore, the new stainless steel construction adds a whole new element of everyday wear. Additionally, if you find the bezel too dressy, Rolex also offers a model without the fluted bezel. Finally, the Datejust can be configured with either a standard oyster or jubilee bracelet. The jubilee is ideal if you want a dressier look and frankly, pairs nicely with the white gold fluted bezel.

 Movement

The Datejust is now powered by the Rolex caliber 3235. It delivers full COSC performance, 70 hours of power reserve, and timing that falls within -2/+2 seconds per day. Really, you can’t ask for more in a movement that’ll last you several lifetimes. Paired with a Datejust, this really results in a combo that screams perfection. At 41mm, it’s a watch that can be worn daily and really gives the other sport models a run for their money. Personally, I can see myself choosing this over the new Sea-Dweller.

The Datejust 41 comes in at $7,350. While that’s a price most will have to wrestle for a bit, it’s fair considering the watch’s features. It’s really, really hard to beat a Datejust. It works for formal occasions and a 41mm version makes it even easier to rock every single day. Also, Rolex offers so many ways to configure the watch, so it’s really easy to find one that works for you.
