As a tribute to James Bond, Omega has recently released the Omega Commander’s Watch Seamaster Diver 300m Limited Edition.  Dig into this new Omega dive watch with a NATO strap that celebrates the colors of the British Royal Navy.

James Bond’s Omega Commander’s Watch

This year marks the 50th, 40th, and 20th anniversaries of three films in the Bond series, namely You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Tomorrow Never Dies. In each of these movies, James Bond appears in a Royal Navy uniform. In fact, among other titles, the fictional spy character holds the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy. As such, it’s only fitting that Omega has launched the commemorative and limited edition Seamaster Diver 300m “Commander’s Watch”.  This honor the watchmaker’s long-standing relationship with the Bond film franchise — one that started in 1995.

This timepiece that is essentially the same in terms of casing and inner mechanics as other Seamaster 300M Diver watches. However, the Omega Commander’s Watch stands apart because of its color scheme and its design nods to the secret agent.

The Look of the Omega Commander’s Watch

With a 41mm steel case, this Seamaster features a blue ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel and a white ceramic dial. The bezel also includes a Liquidmetal diving scale and a red rubber cover on the initial quarter of the ring. Standing out against the white watch face, the blue and red continue throughout the dial’s design as an homage to the ensign colors of the British Royal Navy. Circling the dial, for instance, are 12 blue, luminescent hour markers, along with a discreet minute track also in blue.

At the center of the dial sits a blue skeletonized hour and minute hands. There’s also an extra thin red seconds hand that features a counterweight in the form of the famed 007 gun logo. The word “OMEGA” appears in blue along with the Co-Axial Chronometer certification and the watch’s water resistance rating of 300m or 1000ft. The “Seamaster” designation, on the other hand, stands out just above the watch hands in a bright red. A date window sits at 3 o’clock and contains a white date disc upon which the numerals appear in blue. Except for the number 7 which, of course, is displayed in the same red.

Fitted with a 5-stripe patterned polyamide NATO strap in blue, red, and gray that’s finished off with a polished buckle, the Omega Commander’s Watch Seamaster Diver 300m is a standout timepiece. In true pageantry, the Omega Commander’s Watch is presented in a special box inspired by a medal case. Also in the box is an extra stainless steel bracelet along with a tool to make switching it out easy. Topping it all off is the inclusion of a “naval pin”.

The Mechanics of the Omega Commander’s Watch

Powered by the Omega Caliber 2507, this self-winding chronometer boasts a Co-Axial escapement with a rhodium-plated finish. Fans of James Bond will enjoy the 007 gun logo and the stripes of the Commander’s naval insignia, which are featured on the rotor and can be viewed via the watch’s sapphire crystal screw-in caseback. In fact, this Swiss watchmaker took their tribute to the super-spy one step further by creating a central 9mm “bullet path” design at the center of the rotor for that added touch of 007 cool. Offering the wearer a power reserve of 48 hours, this is a very decent piece for daily wear.

As a professional divers watch, the Omega Commander’s Watch case includes a guarded screw-in crown at 3 o’clock, in addition to an additional crown at the 10 o’clock mark, which acts as a helium escape valve for the watch during the decompression phase of a dive.

Priced at approximately $4,826 and limited to just 7,007 pieces for the stainless steel edition, it’s a watch that will likely come off the market quite rapidly.

For those that like this piece, but are into a little more bling, a second version of the Omega Commander’s Watch is available in an 18K yellow gold case. Featuring all the same elements, apart from the case material, a diving scale in Ceragold, and an 18K yellow gold seconds hand, there are only(00)7 units available of ultra exclusive watch worldwide. The gold version of the Omega Commander’s Watch will retail for about $29,060.

The Omega Seamaster Collection

While James Bond first started wearing the Seamster 300M in 1995, the Seamaster plunged onto the scene earlier than that. In fact, the Omega presented the first Seamaster in 1948! Not surprisingly, there are been countless iterations of the Seamaster throughout its long history.

Omega has ensured that their signature marine-inspired collection is a wide and varied one. In addition to the Seamaster 300M dive watch, there’s the dressier Seamaster Aqua Terra and the robust Planet Ocean.

Whether a commemorative James Bond edition or a more mainstream everyday version, there’s no denying the broad appeal of the Omega Seamaster.
