Fans of the Reverso watch be delighted to see Jaeger-LeCoultre and Casa Fagliano pairing up once more. Behold the Pre SIHH 2018 Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface with a Casa Fagliano Strap.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has begun teasing what it will be releasing in 2018 with a look at a new Reverso that’s set to make waves at the upcoming SIHH 2018. Continuing the Manufacture’s close relationship with famed Argentinian boot-maker Casa Fagliano — which was first enshrined with a limited edition run of Reverso Tribute to 1931 pieces in 2011 — Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled the Reverso Tribute Duoface with Casa Fagliano leather strap (ref. Q396245J).

Jaeger-LeCoultre, Casa Fagliano, and Polo

It’s rare that a watchstrap makes the watch, but in this case, the band with which this JLC is paired is understandably revered if you know a thing or two about this shoemaker’s rich history. A fourth-generation boot-maker, Buenos Aires-based Casa Fagliano has been producing handmade leather boots beloved by polo players the world over since 1892. Making just 90 pairs of boots per year, this artisanal manufacturer is run by three members of the Fagliano family who have grown by such renown that the waitlist for a pair of Casa Fagliano boots is currently over one year.

Fitted to the Reverso Tribute Duoface for 2018 — a run limited to just 100 units — is a two-toned cordovan leather strap that has been specially designed and crafted by hand. Offering a light brown strap that contrasts with a deeper brown hue on the turned-over flap where the leather connects to the watchcase, plus a visible overstitch, this watchstrap offers the Reverso a vintage look and feel. And though this Jaeger-LeCoultre is certainly a dress watch, this iteration ties it nicely back with the Reverso’s original sports heritage.

With a deep connection to the sport of polo, it’s only natural that Casa Fagliano caught the attention of Jaeger-LeCoultre, a brand that similarly has been long connected with the equine-based activity through its creation of the original Reverso. Designed at the outset as the first “sports watch,” the Reverso was conceived as a practical timepiece that would enable polo players to protect the crystal face of their watch — via the Reverso dial’s ability to flip over — while playing this lively game. Now an iconic watch, the Reverso has seen many iterations and variations through the ages, so much so that it became the Manufacture’s signature piece.

It was in 1994, though that JLC first launched the Reverso Duoface. This unparalleled technical feat in watchmaking mastery saw a two-sided dial driven by a single caliber, which allowed for a change in style midway through the day or the accommodation of a second time zone, which, today, defines the Duo models.

The newest iteration of the Duoface is presented in a 49.4 mm x 29.9 mm 18-carat pink gold case and boasts the classic Art Deco style for which the Reverso is famous. The primary time-only dial offers a sun-brushed satin dark gray finish with gold-plated hour markers and dauphine hour and minute hands, plus a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The reverse side features a opaline watch face with a Clous de Paris guilloché pattern surrounding the central disk, and — in addition to the main dauphine hour and minute hands — a small register bearing a 24-hour counter with day/night indicator.

Powering the Reverso Tribute Duoface is the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 854/2. An in-house, manually wound movement, this impressive piece of engineering contains 167 components and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Providing hour, minute, small seconds, and second time-zone functionality, plus a day/night indicator, this caliber also offers the wearer a decent 42-hour power reserve.

Set to be sold exclusively in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques worldwide, this limited edition piece will set its buyer back by approximately $25,000. Considering the celebrated pairing of two beloved brands, polo players and haute horology collectors will be hard-pressed not to seek out this stunning timepiece.
