In the luxury watch world, March is an important month since that’s when Baselworld takes place. The largest and most important watch and jewelry show in the world, Baselworld in Basel, Switzerland, is where top watch brands like Rolex, Patek, Omega, and hundreds of others unveil their novelties for the year. This year’s edition of the show will take place March 22 – March 27, 2018. While some brands remained tight-lipped and only release their new watches during the exhibition, some others offer a little preview prior to the show. With less than two weeks to go until Baselworld, let’s have a look at six pre-Baselworld 2018 watch previews.
Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367
Given that Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon, it comes as no surprise that this complex watch mechanism remains a signature offering of Breguet. For 2018, Breguet will introduce the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 with a “grand feu” enamel dial.
On the beautiful white dial sits a collection of famous Breguet hallmarks—the Breguet numerals, the blue Breguet hands, and the oscillating tourbillon. The dial is encased in a slim 42mm rose gold case, adorned with the brand’s signature fluting around the case band.
Breitling Navitimer 8
As a pre-Baselworld 2018 preview, Breitling actually announced an entirely new collection. The new Breitling Navitimer 8 collection includes five new aviation timepieces and signals a new generation of the brand’s famous model.
Named after the Breitling Huit Aviation Department established in 1938 charged to produce cockpit instruments and pilot watches (“huit is French for eight), the Navitimer 8 watches balance vintage inspiration with modern tastes. The five new Breitling watches include the Navitimer 8 B01, the Navitimer 8 Unitime, the Navitimer 8 Chronograph, the Navitimer 8 Day & Date, and the Navitimer 8 Automatic.
Bulgari Octo Tourbillon Sapphire
In 2017, Bulgari presented the Octo Tourbillon Sapphire, which was a bold take on the brand’s signature Octo men’s watch collection. This year, Bulgari has added a black DLC-coated titanium version with blue accents. Just like its predecessor, the new Bulgari Octo Tourbillon Sapphire DLC flaunts a 44mm case, which houses a transparent dial and caseback for a complete view of the movement.
Bulgari has cleverly used the movement’s bridges as hour markers, which not only gives a geometric vibe to the watch but also allows the wearer to easily tell the time—which is not always the case with skeletonized dials. The vibrant blue on the dial and the leather strap is a great contrast to the otherwise dark watch.
Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic
As a brand always looking to shock and awe its fans, Hublot will continue to shake things up by debuting the first watch with a red ceramic case and bezel at Baselworld 2018. The new Big Bang Unico Red Magic features a large 45mm case in a vibrant crimson hue that will no doubt always be the center of attention.
To create the boldly colored ceramic, Hublot had to invent (and patent) a new manufacturing process. We’re certain this is not the last vibrantly colored ceramic watch that will come out of the Hublot House. Limited to just 500 pieces, the new 2018 Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic runs on the Unico HUB124 manufacture chronograph movement.
TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02
TAG Heuer is yet another brand to give a sneak peek to an entirely new collection. The Carrera Heuer 02 collection will make its official debut at Baselworld 2018 with 13 brand new models. Proudly modern in design, the new Carrera Heuer 02 watches are equipped with the Caliber Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement.
Most of the watches in the collection sport 43mm cases except for the 45mm GMT model, and cases are offered in PVD-coated steel, ceramic, gold, and carbon. For even more versatility, there are straps and bracelets available in rubber, leather, ceramic or steel. The dials of the new Carrera Heuer 02 watches now have the trio of registers positioned in the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock instead of the preceding 6/9/12 positioning.
