Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore

ARTICLE DATE 01/17/2015

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronographs is a homage to its more traditional predecessor, the smaller Royal Oak watch. Such changes are considered enormous when the Offshore, the more “masculine” successor was launched in 1993 and added some modern aesthetic touches for today’s luxury-sport-watch aficionado. In fact, these watches have defined what new and modern timepieces should be and became trendsetters.

Steel is the primary metal used, for its durability. The case’s crown, chronograph push-pieces, and push-piece guards have been slightly redesigned and resized. All of the rubber used for the crown and push-pieces of the earlier “26170” Royal Oak Offshore watches have been replaced in the new “26470” models with black ceramic. These push-pieces are made for sturdiness and add more years of life to this timepiece.

In addition, the dial’s Arabic numeral hour markers have a more sculpted look, with polished fillet borders; the subdials and round date window are also surrounded by polished borders. It has a 42-millimeter diameter face, which has set the standards for modern watches.

The new hands are faceted and have a luminescent coating; this means that they will glow even in the darkest of areas. All of the colors of the date disks match those of the dials for greater uniformity. Having a harmonic palette is necessary for jewelry.

Of course, the Royal Oak Offshore DNA is still clearly evident: the hexagonal bezel (in satin-brushed and polished steel or rose gold) secured by eight polished steel hexagonal screws; the waffle-like “Mega Tapisserie” pattern on the dial that helps enhance its depth; and the applied Audemars Piguet “AP” initials in white or rose gold directly above a white transfer brand logo on a raised cartouche.

AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver

There are many aesthetic options for the Royal Oak since the brand has grown since its 1993 inception. You can go beyond the standard design, and to dive deep into the realm of Audemars Piguet, and to see how well they can innovate.

Our top recommendation is the Offshore Diver model, which is self-winding and designed to withstand great depths. Take it down up to 300 meters or 1000 feet, while measuring your dive-time. The black dial has stainless steel and sapphire, to handle your undersea activities. You can trust this watch to tell the time under the sea.

Alternative AP Royal Oak Watches

Try out the Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph if you want a colorful take on the brand with manual winding. These handmade faces show off the clock’s inner workings so that you can see it work whenever you check the time. The case is made of titanium and sapphire, to provide long-lasting beauty.

If you prefer watches that are self-winding, there are Royal Oak chronographs that will do the trick. The Self-Winding Model has a two-tone “Méga Tapisserie” pattern, two-tone black and blue counters, and a hand-stitched alligator strap.

Another great option is the Royal Oak Safari model, which has a more casual look to blend with elegance. This model has grey ceramic for the bezel and case, with titanium for the case back and push-pieces. A matching strap and titanium pin buckle complete the look.

AP Royal Oak Offshore Price

Expect to pay a minimum of $15,000 for a new AP Royal Oak Offshore Watch. The model at this price is the Diver, although you have to pay more depending on the materials and the year. Some even cost up to $225,000 for design and durability.
