For 2017, Breitling has issued a limited-edition of the Chronoliner B04 featuring steel and ceramic in a bold blue design. Only 100 pieces of this model are available exclusively at Breitling boutiques. So, if you’re a fan of vintage-inspired pilot’s chronographs, read on to discover the new Breitling Chronoliner B04.
Breitling Chronoliner B04 Boutique Edition
With the Chronoliner B04 Boutique Edition, Breitling unveils a limited edition version of their Chronoliner for 2017. An automatic chronograph with a dual time zone system in 24-hour mode, plus a ceramic bezel that indicates a third time zone, this iteration comes in all blue. Continuing the incredible user-friendliness for which the Chronoliner is famous, this is the epitome of the modern flight captain’s watch.
Sized at 46mm in diameter, the Chronoliner B04 Boutique Edition is big. It boasts a steel case with a rich blue dial and matching bidirectional rotating bezel in blue ceramic. Housed under a cambered and glare-proof sapphire crystal, the dial holds three white sub-dials. There are two chronograph registers at 3 and 6 o’clock and a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock. These are in addition to a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. Furthermore, the steel hour and minute hands, along with the hour indexes, display a generous amount of luminescence for easy readability.
Standing out against the sea of blue and indicating the second time zone, a thin, red-tipped central GMT hand points to a 24-hour scale that marks the dial’s periphery. A third time zone, also in 24-hour mode, can be read via silver numerals on the notched bezel. Rounding off the case design, a non–screw-down crown sits at 3 o’clock between the two chronograph pushers. A turn of this crown sets the main hour hand to the wearer’s local time, while a forwards or backwards simultaneous adjustment of the date takes place. Offering a clean and classic look, this Breitling Chronoliner features no crown guard. Plus, the steel crown and pushers harmonize nicely with the silvered medium-sized lugs that frame the timepiece.
Breitling Caliber B04
The entirely in-house developed and manufactured Breitling Caliber B04 powers the Chronoliner B04 Boutique Edition. Chronometer-certified by COSC, this self-winding mechanical movement provides 1/4th second, 30 minutes, and 12 hours functionality. The movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 bph) and has 70 hours of power reserve. Due to the watch’s functions that enable the measurement of flight times and the tracking of three separate time zones, this is an ideal watch for pilots and frequent fliers.
Protecting the Manufacture caliber, a screwed-in caseback adorns the back of the watch and features a vintage-style image and inscription reading “SPECIAL DELIVERY,” as well as each model’s limited edition number. Moreover, in keeping with the watch’s practicality, the Chronoliner B04 is water resistant to 100 meters.
Continuing the timepiece’s vintage appearance, this Breitling is paired with the Aero Classic rubber watch strap in a complementary blue. Embossed with a grooved pattern, the strap design is a nod to the steel mesh bracelets commonly used by Breitling during the 1950s and 60s. Also in line with the pilot watch style and securing the watch comfortably on the wrist, is the strap’s stainless-steel pin buckle.
