Zenith El Primero Grand Port Royal Open Chronograph Watch Repair - Best Chronograph Service in the USA

The original Zenith El Primero movement, first released in 1969, was the first successful automatic chronograph movement. It’s 36000 vibrations per hour allowed for a level of precision above that of most other chronograph designs. In 2003, Zenith introduced the Port Royal line featuring the Open design variation that displays the movement’s escapement through an opening in the dial. Inspired by the skyline of New York, the Port Royal has a modern and elegant profile.

The Grand Port Royal Open Chronograph features a power reserve indicator for easy monitoring of the watch’s 55-hour power reserve, as well as a 30-minute register and center minute hand for the chronograph. The Calibre 4021 movement that powers this watch uses 39 jewels to reduce friction between the 248 separate components, utilizes a silicon escape wheel and lever, and vibrates at 5Hz or 36000 vibrations per hour, well above the typical 28000 vph of most modern watches. It’s decorated with a perlage movement-finishing technique to enhance the beauty of the movement. All this performance is visible through the see-through, sapphire, exhibition case back. Imagine a clear hood on your Ferrari to see the engine perform; now imagine you can wear it on your wrist.

This Zenith watch was serviced under our one-year warranty (two years for Rolex). Although the watch had been purchased seven months before, and potentially required only a minor adjustment, Gray & Sons goes above and beyond for our customers. The watch was completely disassembled and fully serviced again. As part of this Zenith repair, movement parts were put through a multiple-stage cleaning process that used three different solutions to wash away all the accumulated dirt and old lubricants. We then re-assembled the watch piece by piece, wheel by wheel, screw by screw, and applied four different synthetic oils to get the watch running perfectly.
