A Unique Charity Event: Only Watch
On 11 November, philanthropists and haute horology aficionados will congregate in Geneva, Switzerland for the biennial charity event, Only Watch. The greatest watchmakers in the world work diligently for this special occasion, where they each present a one-off piece for auction.
Taking place every two years, Only Watch is under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of and money for research into the fight against the debilitating disorder, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. For Only Watch 2017, TAG Heuer has donated a special Connected Modular 45 in black and yellow in honor of the event’s official colors.
Only Watch 2017 TAG Heuer Luxury Kit: Part Smartwatch
Dubbed the TAG Heuer Luxury Kit “Only Watch” Special Edition (ref. SBF8A8017.11EB0099), the box set contains a Connected Modular 45 — TAG Heuer’s luxury smartwatch — in addition to a mechanical module Heuer-02-T Tourbillon. Offering both digital and analog components, TAG Heuer is catering to the shifting mood of the buyer so that he or she can opt for a smartwatch one day and a mechanical tourbillion the next.
Offered up in a deep black and vibrant yellow, each watch is encased in a Grade 5 titanium case. For added robustness, the tourbillon is also coated in black PVD. Developed entirely in Switzerland in collaboration with Intel, the Modular 45 is the world’s first smartwatch with a Swiss Made mark. As such, it combines luxury, Swiss watchmaking mastery, and the intelligence of a tech world giant. The Modular 45 features a high-definition AMOLED screen, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, a range of customisable TAG Heuer dials, GPS, an NFC payment sensor, and water resistance to 50 meters. Equipped with Android Wear 2.0, the watch is paired with a TAG Heuer Companion app that enables the wearer to personalize the watch entirely to his or her preferences.
Only Watch 2017 TAG Heuer Luxury Kit: Part Mechanical Chronograph Tourbillon
As a modular watch, this digital component switches out for the COSC-certified Heuer-02-T Tourbillon in an instant. A chronograph, this instrument features a tachymeter engraved black bezel and a black skeletonized dial with yellow-varnished hour markers and hands.
A chronograph minute subdial sits 3 and chronograph hour counter sits at the 9 o’clock mark, while at 6 o’clock, TAG has placed the 1 rotation per minute tourbillon in a carbon and titanium cage. To mark the charity event, the tourbillon’s caseback is engraved with the lettering “Only Watch, 7th edition – 2017.” It is also numbered “1/1” to demonstrate the fact that there is only one watch like this in the entire world.
Powering the Connected Modular 45 is the Intel Atom processor Z34XX series, while the Manufacture TAG Heuer Calibre HEUER-02T drives the Heuer 02-T Module.
Even More Extras With The Only Watch 2017 TAG Heuer
Adding further to the variety already on offer for the buyer, the TAG Heuer Luxury Kit “Only Watch” Special Edition kit also comes with two different watchstraps. The duo of perforated rubber straps have removable titanium folding clasps with safety push-buttons. One comes in all black and the other in all yellow, offering the wearer the choice to go classic or bold.
If the matter of choice isn’t enough to entice a buyer, TAG Heuer is also including a unique experience with the box set. The lucky buyer of the Luxury Kit “Only Watch” Special Edition will, along with three other guests, join TAG Heuer CEO and President of the Watch Division of LVMH Group, Jean-Claude Biver for a private lunch. The special event will include a look at the evolution of the watch industry over the past 20 years and an examination into the challenges for the watch world that the future brings. For horology fanatics, this is a priceless, once in a lifetime opportunity.
With a pre-sale estimate of range of $16,000 to $26,000, we anticipate that this collector’s edition set will perform better than expected considering the global shift towards smartwatches, as well as TAG Heuer’s proffering of variety. Additionally, TAG Heuer remains as one of the most popular Swiss watch brands today with famous watches like the Monaco and the Carrera to its name. Watch fans that enjoy the innovation of mechanical movements, while also appreciating technological advancements will have the best of both worlds with TAG Heuer Luxury Kit “Only Watch” Special Edition, so we look forward to a healthy bidding battle.
